Original Article: Public Meeting Tonight On Park Hill Plan

Louisville Metro Government officials take their master plan for the Park Hill industrial corridor to the public Monday.

The 2.5 million dollar renovation plan will turn parts of the area southwest of downtown into a green-industry corridor to attract environmentally friendly jobs and industries.

Mayor’s spokesperson Chris Poynter tonight’s (Monday’s) meeting will be mostly informational since public input was gathered as the plan was developed.

“University of Louisville is very interested in what’s going on because their campus abuts Park Hill. Companies like Brown-Forman, which is located in the Park Hill corridor had a strong interest,” he says. “And we had some neighborhood residents who were involved as well, although most of the area is industrial.”

The plan calls for improvements to sewers, roads and energy-efficiency and is expected to take several years to complete. The meeting will be held at McFerrin Elementary at 5:30.

Original Article: Abramson Unveils Park Hill Master Plan

Louisville Metro Government’s plan to revitalize the Park Hill industrial corridor has been made public.

The plan calls for the 14 hundred acre area southwest of downtown to be made more environmentally friendly through infrastructure improvements and incentives to attract green-collar jobs.

“Right now it’s really difficult to go through the corridor because a lot of streets are one way, they cut off an end, there are train tracks,” says Mayor’s spokesperson Chris Poynter. “So there are several plans to improve the transportation in the area. There are also plans to attract business and industry there by incentivising them.”

Friday the mayor’s office announced projects to improve roads, sewers and energy efficiency over several years. The plan costs about 2.5 million dollars. Poynter says additional investments will come from businesses that are attracted to the renovated corridor.

“Some of it will be paid by industries as they move in, but there’s a significant portion that the city’s going to have to invest over time if we really want to turn this corridor around,” he says. “Like I say, we’ve got infrastructure improvements, we’ve got to improve the streets, we’ve got to make it easy to get out of, go north, south, east and west.”

The city will hold a public meeting Monday to explain the details of the plan.

Original Article: Funds Secured For West Louisville Anti-Drug Initiative

An effort to reduce drug and alcohol abuse among young people in west Louisville’s Park Hill area is getting a financial boost from the federal government.

A $625,000 grant will be administered by Louisville’s Center for Neighborhoods to involve schools, businesses, religious groups, police and others in an educational anti-drug initiative.

Luther Brown leads a crime prevention group in west Louisville. He says the funds aer sorely needed.

“When your mind is altered with drugs and chemicals and alcohol, usually your thinking is not going to be on target. We’re hoping (for) our youth, we will teach them and educate them to be a future leader in our community,” he said.

The grant, secured by Congressman John Yarmuth, will be distributed over a five year period.
